The demise of the European Super League has fallen for now, but how long until a new and improved plan returns to threaten the pyramid of football once again?

After worldwide outrage against the European Super League, founder of the ESL (European Super League) and Real Madrid President Florentino Perez's plan to 'save football' has swiftly crumbled as nine out of 12 clubs have withdrawn their involvement from the ESL.

Although the rise and fall of the ESL occurred within the space of 72 hours, The Villa View presenter and The Athletic writer Dan Bardell isn't convinced that the discontinuation of the ESL will fix the fundamental problems within football, after he said "I don't think it's the end of it, these owners are parasites."

Bardell stated: "I think the backlash has been good, it's been a great thing, but I don't think there's anything to deter these people (the owners) when there's money to be made."

The ESL saga has gained a huge amount of attention and has also caused relations between owners and their clubs to deteriorate, with managers such as Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp publicly going against the change.

Despite feeling uncomfortable when being questioned on the ESL, Manchester City manager Guardiola said: "It is not sport if the success is already guaranteed."

Since the ESL plans fell through yesterday evening, fans and pundits all over England have been requesting 'the big six' to be punished for their actions.

Bardell said: "I'd like to see just the owners punished, but I don't think there's a way of doing that without punishing the fans, players and staff."

"If these owners resigned, there's no guarantee that the one's coming in are not going to be even worse."

After each of the English clubs withdrew from the ESL recently, Spanish club Atletico Madrid and Italian giants Inter Milan and AC Milan quickly followed in leaving the controversial reform.

Founding chairman Florentino Perez has yet to comment on the ESL collapse.
